What Is The Difference Between A Pick Up Line And A Opener

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba Pick Up lines and Openers are often confused as being the same thing, even though in many ways they are not. Pick Up lines and Openers are both used to start a conversation with a woman that you are attracted to, and both have the potential to sound canned and insincere; after that the similarities end. Pick Up lines for the most part are statements or questions that lead to some sexual innuendo or compliment of the woman. It is generally meant to get the conversation going if it is done and taken in a playful kind of way. Even when it is taken in a playful way some women will act as if it has offended them to see how the man responds, as men who get it will still maintain their playfulness. More times than not it is neither done or taken in a playful way which leads to unpleasant conversation and bad attitudes all the way around. Openers are questions that require an opinion on the matter. It gets the conversation going and when used effectively allows the man to control the interaction and lead her to where he wants to go. At worst, it is seen for what it is n attempt to attract the woman, yet in most cases it still leads to pleasant conversation. In the end, Pick Up lines are really bad Openers or Openers are really good Pick Up lines. Either way, if you are considering using canned material make sure you make a good decision on how and what to use. Of course, choosing to make a sincere approach is always a good option as well. The Housewarming Gift, Unique Tradition of Gift Giving

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By James Zeller May the roof above us never fall inAnd may we good companions beneath it never fall out.– Irish Blessing From round bread loaves and salt to a classic kitchen gift, the tradition of housewarming gift giving has a long and venerable history. That history of a housewarming gift continues today as an effective means of bringing new neighbors together. The Tradition Boris removed his cap and wrung it nervously. A member of Russias ruling party was arriving in full regalia. The entourage moved through the village as merchants offered respect. Boris nervously ran to his cottage and asked his wife, Yelena, for the gift they had prepared for this moment. As the dignitary approached the outskirts of the village, Boris walked forward holding a round loaf of bread with a mound of salt in the center. Whats this? asked the dignitary. Bread - for good health. Salt - for long life, Boris said nervously. For me? queried the dignitary. With glad welcome, replied Boris as Yelena anxiously brushed back a strand of hair wondering if the gift would be well received. All was quiet while the dignitary lifted the bread and inhaled the fresh baked scent. Such a wonderful welcome, he said with a large grin. The village folk broke out into cheers as a new tradition was born. While there is no definitive way of knowing exactly how housewarming gifts truly originated, some historians believe a scenario like the one above may have merit. Some will look back further to the birth of the Christ child and the gifts of the Magi. However it originated, the idea of giving a housewarming gift in honor of new neighbors or friends has long been celebrated. It has proven useful in either breaking the ice with those we have not known or celebrating a new chapter in the lives of those we have long cared for. Meaningful friendships have begun by observing this housewarming tradition. Housewarming Etiquette Housewarming gifts should be practical. A kitchen gift or cooking gift is always appreciated as neighbors or friends begin life in a new home. Housewarming gifts do not need to be overly expensive to be gratefully received. A very expensive housewarming gift given publicly can actually cause uncomfortable moments for the recipient as well as any other guests who may be in the home. So Many Choices While items for the outdoors may prove useful in some cases, a kitchen gift or cooking gift proves especially welcome in most scenarios. Even single men often find the kitchen of unique interest when seeking to entertain guests, so a housewarming gift for the kitchen may be appropriate more often than you might think. A Good Neighbor In a society that is increasingly mobile, a housewarming gift may be the perfect opportunity to lend support for someone who may be distanced from family. Your simple act of kindness in this housewarming tradition may well result in long term friendship and mutual support. In a society where we often dont know our neighbors names, a housewarming gift provides a welcome means of connecting neighbors. James Zeller writes for gift related websites and blogs. Here is a selection of unique gifts that he found, and a creative collection of culinary gourmet gifts. What Angels Do

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Christopher Dilts Introduction Many people don’t really understand the nature of our guardian Angels. Every one of us, as long as we are in our human form has one or more angels with us at all times. In many years of working with individuals to help them come into closer contact with their guardian Angels I have experienced that they are present for each and every one of us. This message from them describes what they do, why they help us, and how we can receive their gifts to the fullest extent. Angel Message “We are given unto you as gifts of God, gifts of Creator. We are the expression of Creator in a form that you may more easily access and experience. We are given unto you to help carry you onto God, to help carry you into the love of God, to help carry you into the expression of the love within you. Above all, we are given unto you for the expression of your soul; the true, deep, and complete expression of your soul. We have been with you from before your birth, from before your conception, when you were a soul in the splendor of heaven. We were with you at the time that you chose what gifts you would share with others upon the earth. Your soul in pure form is pure light, pure love, pure joy. The gifts that you have chosen to embody, and carry, and to bring into full fruition upon the earth, are those very gifts that bring you joy, wonder, and excitement. They bring you into a natural place of buoyancy, of the joy of sharing. We amplify your ability to connect with the gifts that you carry within you. We work with you to open your willingness to experience your own gifts within, to see and know them as pure expressions of love, to hold them, both sacred and true, and pure, and yet to share them with no holding. With no reservation. With no concern of how they are accepted. We stress this last part, that you have no concern, that you have no expectation, that you have no demand upon those whom you give your gifts to. We ask you to look upon the heavens above you, seeing the moon, the planets, the stars, the endless and infinite galaxies of stars; all of this creation revolves in order that the soul is expressed in pure and true form. All of this has been given upon you and to every soul in form. Realize that whatever limitations of consciousness you currently carry, reality is infinite. God is infinite. Our abilities, the abilities of the Angels, are truly infinite. We withhold nothing from you. Creator withholds nothing from you in your role of true creation as a being of love, and of light, and of compassion, of caring and of devotion to what you have come upon the earth to express. We are completely outside of your ideas of limitation of any kind. We are not limited by time, or space, or place or amount. It is vital that you understand this. As you call upon us to assist you, there is no diminishing of our energy, of our ability, of our presence. There is no diminishing. We are given unto the people of the earth to serve, to assist, to guide, to arrange, to partner with. We have no other reason for existence. Please take this in and know that you are our full occupation. We do not have another “day job” or other responsibilities that you distract us from when you call upon us. We wish you to know that Angels are in total service to you in your present condition and your present level of consciousness. In the exact moment of your life you find yourself in right now. We carry no judgments. We carry no criticisms. We carry not even expectations for you. We make no decisions about when to help you and when not to help you. We have no free will in this matter. That is not our role. We are not created in a configuration of choice or judgment. We are beyond any concept of judgment. We express the will of Creator in a form and in a manner that you can easily connect with, that you can access for all that you need in the present moment. This remains true moment to moment throughout your lifetime. We never evaluate you are good or bad. We never give or withhold based upon any concept of good or bad. There is no withholding of any kind within our realm. All we do is give infinitely, completely, eternally to you. Please realize as deeply as you are able that the grace we carry to you, the gifts we carry to you, the love and the loving presence we carry to you is not dependent upon your behavior. It is not dependent upon your past. It is not dependent upon you doing anything in this moment, other than receiving it. We shine upon you as the sun shines upon every plant, every tree, every shrub, withholding nothing. The sun does not judge this plant worthy and this plant unworthy and shine only upon one. We wish you to fully and completely realize that our love is infinite, our gifts are infinite, our presence is infinite and is given to you exactly as you are in this moment. There is nothing that you need do to receive this. There is nothing you need accomplish to receive this. There is no redemption you need to achieve to receive this. There is nothing you need do except to attain the consciousness of receiving. And this, which we have just labeled attainment, is nothing more than merely letting go of all beliefs of limitation, lack, critical evaluation, and judgment. For, while we are not free will beings and are given completely unto you, you, however, are a free will being. It is very important that you realize that your choices are fully honored. Your choices are completely respected. We do not and cannot force anything upon you. Even a blessing that is so important for you, so dear to your heart and so dear to your soul can only be received by you if you allow it. We wish you to realize that for you to experience receiving our assistance and our help you must choose this for yourself, you must invoke this within yourself, you must milk your own willingness to receive. You must ask to receive. You must be willing to receive. And yet this is all you need do, nothing more than this.” Christopher Dilts has helped people come into greater partnership with their Guiding Angels for over ten years. Weed Control Basics (UK) — A Quick Read

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Val Scaresbrook Know your enemy The old saying is probably right ‘One year’s seeding means seven years weeding.’ Some weeds grow from seeds which may be in the soil or brought on the wind or by birds; other weeds re-grow from pieces of root. Annuals (eg groundsel, rose-bay willow-herb, chickweed): Annual weeds are those which produce seed in the same year that they began to grow. They produce many seeds which are ready to grow during the next mild period of weather. Control annual weeds by hoeing. This chops off the stems at ground level, and the roots cannot re-grow. Or control them by digging the ground over so that you bury the weeds on the surface. Don’t let annual weeds grow large enough to flower and seed, otherwise you’ll have an even bigger problem later. If you don’t have time to hoe every week, at least remove the flowers, so that seeds cannot be produced. Hoe weedy and bare areas every week to kill visible weeds and disturb just-germinated seeds below the surface. Newly germinated seedlings won’t survive this treatment unless there is a lot of rain. Perennial (long-lived) weeds (eg couch (twitch), dandelion, dock, thistle, bindweed, horsetail, ground elder, Japanese knotweed): These live from year to year and can send up new shoots from their roots, so they survive hoeing to begin with. But if hoeing is continued weekly, the pieces of root will eventually become exhausted and unable to produce any more shoots. Hoeing off shoots cuts off new food supplies to the root. There’s no need to pick up weeds after hoeing, unless they have flower heads (the flowers could still develop and produce seeds) or you want to do some work in the area. Keep your hoe sharp by using a file. Problem areas Mechanical solutions Overgrown areas are best cut down to the ground first, using a billhook, scythe, rotary mower (hire a tough one) or brushcutter. Then rake the debris off and dig over the soil with a spade or plough. A cultivator stirs the soil up rather than burying the original surface, but is also useful. Any of these methods gives you bare soil which is easier to hoe than a weedy patch. Chemical solutions — herbicides Alternatively, clear the ground with a weedkiller. First decide whether you have annual or perennial weeds — if unsure, assume that there are perennial weeds present. Study the bottles of weedkiller in the garden centre and make sure you choose one designed for the problem. Although there are numerous trade names, there are only a few actual chemicals - these are listed as the active ingredient(s). The active ingredient named glyphosate (such as in Roundup) is taken up by the plant’s leaves so eventually the roots are killed. This takes a while, so take note of instructions on the label, especially about the ideal size of weed to be treated. It’s better for there to be several leaves on the weed so that more chemical can be taken up. But an old established plant may need several applications before it’s killed. For small areas of weeds, or for spot control of a few weeds, buy a ready-to-use weedkiller in a spray container. Then there’s no mixing needed. Do not mix weedkillers (or any other garden chemicals) in the kitchen. Weedkillers are, after all, designed to kill, so should not come near food or drink or your skin. Take a bucket of water outside so you have plenty for mixing, washing out the sprayer afterwards, and washing your gloves. Keep a pair of rubber gloves for use with chemicals, and store them in the shed or garage. Don’t spray in windy weather, otherwise you risk spray in your face and on your neighbour’s plants. Residual weedkillers An overgrown area contains a great deal of weed seed in the soil, which you can prevent from germinating for months and months by using a type of weedkiller called a residual. Various types prevent seeds germinating for a certain length of time, from a certain depth of soil. But if you disturb the soil, the weedkiller becomes ineffective. If you intend to plant or sow in the area in the near future, make sure that the weedkiller is suitable. Some residuals must not be used around newly planted shrubs, or plants susceptible to damage, so read the label before buying and using. Mulching Most weed seed germinates when exposed to light - this means that only seed near to the soil’s surface will grow. A mulch makes the soil’s surface darker and suppresses weeds. But perennial weeds can still grow through this, so must be dug out, hoed off for a season or sprayed, before a mulch is applied. At least a two-inch depth of organic material is essential to inhibit seed germination. Use well-rotted compost or bark chippings. Top up the layer each year with a small amount of material. Some weeds will still appear, from seeds blown onto the top of the mulch, but these are easy to pull out. If your garden compost has not heated up enough, weed seeds could still be present and grow. If you think your compost heap won’t kill weed seeds, don’t put flowering weeds (or roots of dandelion, couch etc) onto the heap, but bin them (in the council’s garden waste bin if you have one). An alternative mulch for a large area is old carpet or thick black polythene (anchored down) which will suppress weeds, kill any already growing, and buy you some time until you can deal with the area. However, this does encourage slugs. In areas already planted up, you could use sheets of woven material that allows water through (such as Plantex) beneath bark or compost mulch, to prevent worms from dragging the mulch into the soil. Another possibility is to plant something that will spread but that will be easy to pull up when you want to make use of the area - something like the cranesbill Geranium sanguineum is ideal because it spreads quickly, provides evergreen cover with spring flowers, but is easy to pull up and doesn’t self seed. Electronic Medical Billing Solutions Streamline Office Procedure and Protect Patients

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Charlotte_Alice] Charlotte Alice The term medical billing refers to the process of submitting medical claims to medical insurance companies so that doctors or other healthcare providers can receive payment for services rendered. Additionally, medical billing consists of performing follow up checking of medical billing claims in order to determine the status of approval by insurance companies as well as status of payment. Over the years medical billing has moved from paper records to electronic record keeping. This innovation has lowered the costs involved in processing medical claims and has also improved client care, as medical history and physician recommendations and treatment plans can be stored in a central location that may be accessed across an entire network. This type of fully integrated electronic solution is more commonly referred to as electronic medical record or EMR. Increasingly, healthcare providers are considering the advantages presented by outsourcing many of their medical billing, medical claims processing and medical coding processes. These services are being outsourced to less expensive workforces such as those in India and parts of Europe. Also, many medical billing workers work from home. Employers that outsource their medical billing work benefit in a number of ways. Medical billing and claims processing can require a large workforce of people to perform data entry and more advanced medical billing duties. By outsourcing, these healthcare providers dont have to pay for office space to house this large workforce. An electronic medical record, or EMR, is a computer-based patient medical record. An EMR allows access of patient data by healthcare staff at any given location within a network of computers. This also means that clinical staff members can input patient care data that will be instantly accessible by anyone else within the data network. These fully integrated types of data management systems allow healthcare providers to easily schedule treatments and care plans that do not conflict with data entered by other members of a patients team of healthcare providers. This also tremendously cuts down on the risk of medical mistakes that happen when paper records arent updated, or even when sloppy handwriting makes implementation of physician directions difficult. Before electronic medical billing systems, medical billing and claims processing was done nearly exclusively on paper. With the advent of computers it has become possible to efficiently manage large amounts of claims using electronic medical billing software. Many medical billing software companies provide medical billing software to this particularly lucrative segment of the market. The medical billing field has been challenged in recent years due to the introduction of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Due to numerable restrictions put in place as a result of these new laws, many medical billing software companies and healthcare offices spent thousands, in some cases tens of thousands, of dollars on updated technology. Those affected by the HIPAA had to redesign and restructure their business processes and software to become compliant with this new act. Over time there has also developed what is known as straight through billing. Straight through billing integrates the billing process within the practice management workflow, connecting patient scheduling, healthcare delivery, and medical records management. Every member of a practices management workflow receives an updated, unified and coherent picture of practice workload, patient and provider location, resource availability, and cash flow. Straight through billing requires integrated technologies for electronic medical records and straight through billing. As the medical billing industry continues to evolve, these innovations assist the healthcare providers by lowering their costs of operation, but more importantly patients receive better, more timely and accurate care, thus improving the satisfaction and sense of wellbeing of many patients. How to Find Classy Cheap Wedding Invitations

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Yaghtin Afshin Just because you choose to go with cheap wedding nvitations, that doesnt mean that you cant send out something nice that your guests will like. Cheap wedding invitations can still be classy and elegant. The firstand most commontype of cheap wedding invitations that you may think of are the ones that you print yourself. This is very common for someone looking for cheap wedding invitations. Materials such as card stock, envelopes, and even ink will be cheaper. This is also a good idea if you want to really personalize your invitations and have total control over the look and feel. Anyone with a computer and a decent printer can create their own cheap wedding invitations. Brides who are holding a relatively small wedding often choose these cheap wedding invitations. Cheap wedding invitations may also be offered by local printing shops. Sometimes, cheap wedding invitations can be ordered when the print shop has a cancelled order and has card stock that they will not be using. Other times print shops may have a lot of a certain type of card stock, and will sell those for cheap wedding invitations. You can often get cheap wedding invitations when you buy invitations in bulk, too. You might even save money by buying more cheap wedding invitations than you need. Online sites are a great place to look for cheap wedding invitations. Sometimes online sites have access to large amounts of materials, which allow them to sell cheap wedding invitations. Online printers also tend to have a greater amount of business. This allows them to buy materials in bulk, which leads to reduced prices for you. Although you may be receiving cheap wedding invitations, they can still be of very high quality, and can be tailored to fit your needs. Not all online printers are equal, though. Be sure to check out sources of cheap wedding invitations by reading reviews of various sites. Also be sure to carefully check their return policy in case you encounter any problems with the end product. Some bridal shops can also help you find sources of cheap wedding invitations. Generally speaking, most bridal shops will not sell cheap wedding invitations themselves. However, they can often direct you to businesses or individuals who will. Sometimes you may find someone who has a computer and printer who will create your cheap wedding invitations for you. This is similar to doing it yourself, except that you will not be putting your time into it. Of course you will have to pay them a small fee if the person does not do it for you as a favor, but you will still be saving money on your cheap wedding invitations. Regardless of where you get your cheap wedding invitations, be sure that they have a good return policy in case you are unsatisfied with the final product. Hoodia - Seen a Fat San Bushman lately?

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Ian Finlayson The Hoodia Gordonii plant has been used by the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert long before Europeans came into contact with it. It was invaluable to them to ward off hunger during their lengthy nomadic trips through the desert. They also used it medically for a number of other issues such as abdominal cramps, indigestion, hemorrhoids and tuberculosis. The plant is a succulent that grows in the high deserts of the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa. It has appeared on the weight management scene only recently (since early 2004) in the west, but has been used for millennia by the San people of the Kalahari a tribe of hunter-gatherers to help ward off pain, hunger and thirst when the Bushmen made long trips in the desert Hoodia has an appetite-suppressing component P57, which pharmaceutical companies are trying to synthesise so that they can patent it, but, until that happens, this plant is the only source. Hoodia gordonii is not a stimulant, and has no known side effects Research carried out at Brown University in Rhode Island recently suggests that the steroidal glycosides in hoodia affect nerve cells in the hypothalamus that monitor blood glucose. It appears that the effect of this is that the brain thinks that the body has sufficient blood sugar and doesn’t need to eat more and shuts down the hunger mechanism. The first human clinical trial was reputedly conducted by Phytopharm in which a group of morbidly obese men and women was placed in a place as close to prison as it gets. All they could do was read, watch television — and eat. Half the group were given Hoodia and half were given a placebo. At the end of 15 days, the group on Hoodia had reduced their food intake by 1000 calories a day( compared with the average daily diet of around 2200 calories) More recently, in two double-blind studies lean and obese laboratory rats were given Hoodia, which brought about major weight loss in the obese rats and moderate appetite suppression and weight loss in the lean rats. Hoodia also induced a modest drop in the rats’ blood sugar levels, and no adverse side effects were reported. There are no negative side effects reported for the use of this herb. A major claim made for Hoodia is that it does not produce the same unpleasant side effects as other appetite suppressants. Ian Finlayson is chief writer and Webmaster of http://www.theherbspiral.com, a website that deals with medicinal and culinary herbs. In the website Mr Finlayson publishes some of his favourite herbal recipes and visitors have access to his complete self compiled database of medicinal herbs which describes current wisdom of each herb’s therapeutic properties, together with recent media comment, traditional uses, folklore and precautions to be taken with its use and any other relevant information, including articles. Mr Finlayson reviews a range of currently marketed herbal supplements with a view to comparing the known properties of their ingredients with the manufacturer’s claims for their therapeutic effects. Ontario Is A Fishing Paradise

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Ben Franklin With a huge variety of fish running its streams and rivers and residing in its lakes, Ontario is a favorite destination for fishing enthusiasts the world over. Known for playing host to the “big one,” this Canadian province welcomes tourists to enjoy the natural splendor its boundaries have to offer. Before diving into a fishing trip in Ontario, however, there are some things a non-resident might need to pay attention to. Fishing in this province generally requires a permit and some areas might demand more than one. Camping in Ontario’s Crown lands, for example, might require a specialized permit for those who come to not only fish, but enjoy the great outdoors on their stay. Getting solid information about where you’re going and what you intend to fish and comparing it to what licenses or permits you might need can be a little tricky. The best place to seek answers and avoid any unfortunate circumstance is directly from the government itself. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is perhaps the best location to find all the information a fishing expedition will require before it pulls out. That site can be accessed here: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/index.html. Those who choose to fish Ontario do so for the massive variety of fish they can encounter. Although not all species are found in every location during certain times of the year, here are some general rules of thumb for where to find what kinds of fish: Warm water fish found in Ontario include: pumpkinseed, bluegill, goldeye, largemouth bass, white perch and more. Cooler waters will play hose to black crappie, walleye, rock bass, northern pike, white sucker and even redhorse suckers. The cold waters of Ontario are home to rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon, Chinook salmon, Cisco, smelt and more. The diverse landscapes found in Ontario offer up all kinds of fishing and outdoor possibilities for residents and tourists alike. So prevalent are fishing opportunities in this Northern haven that urban fishing is also quite popular. Keep in mind, however, that licensing regulations may apply even in small urban streams and creeks, so check out the laws before you cast. Whether you’re planning to fish in different parts of Ontario or have a favorite spot picked out, don’t forget to check local rules and regulations. This province is welcoming to tourists and outdoor lovers, but its authorities aren’t friendly to those who don’t play by the rules. Ignorance isn’t a good defense. Check it out before you drop a line. While enjoying all that Ontario’s fishing scene has to offer, don’t forget to check out some of the scenery as well. This province is known for its breathtaking landscapes, abundance of wildlife and more. To truly experience Ontario in all its glory, camping trips are often recommended. While Toronto has the allure of the city, the wilds of Ontario are really where the action is. When preparing for a trip to Ontario, remember the climate here can be a little harsh. Even in the summer months, the temperatures will be cooler than those from some locales might expect. Pack accordingly. #1 Resource Ontario, Canada fishing guide. http://www.canadafishingsite.com http://www.salmonfishingworld.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ben_Franklin http://EzineArticles.com/?Ontario-Is-A-Fishing-Paradise&id=147985 generic prescriptions online cheap online medications online doctors for prescriptions online drug prescriptions

What You Really Need to Know about Weight Management and Diets

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Joe Leech Don’t Make Weight Management So Complicated! Hundreds–if not thousands–of articles, books, and evenmedical texts have been written on the subject. In addition, a similar amount of diet products ranging fromfood to pills to “who knows what” have been put on themarket. Frankly, dear reader, in the mind of the author.. IT’sOVERKILL TO THE EXTREME. Why? Because weight control is very simple and boils downto one simple formula: Calories/Energy/Food In (F) = Calories/Energy/Food Burned(FB) + Calories/Energy/Food Excreted (FE) + Food Stored (FS) Abbreviated, we’d see it like this: F = FB + FE + FS It just doesn’t go anywhere else.. you take the calories inand you either burn them, store them, or flush them. Nothingelse happens. When you take more in than you burn or flush, you storethem.. and when you store them.. they store as Fat. Doesn’t that seem simple? In essence it is.. and now herecomes the big “IF” That’s true IF calories or F in is in the right form to beburned! You see, there are many variables.. and that’s why all theother books and articles on the subject! Let’s look at this another way.. like a car. Energy isenergy, Fuel is fuel, and in this case, we are going to takeit in as gasoline. If we keep adding gasoline to a standing car, we start tostore it in the gas tank… until it’s full. If we keepadding gas (F), the tank over flows (FE). But if we startthe engine, we start to burn some of if (FB). If we aresitting there with the car at idle, we burn very little, butif we start in motion, the faster we go (assume levelsurface), the more we use. And if we have varying amounts ofweight in the car, for any given speed, we vary the amountof the burn. If we change the spark plugs or injectors anddo a tune up; maintain tire inflation correctly, for anygiven speed, we also vary the rate of the fuel burn. And if we put a good, optimized mixture of fuel in, asopposed to a cheap bottoms grade gasoline, we burn it at avarying rate.. and in fact, some of it, while technically”gasoline” or “F” is fuel being added we don’t burn it atall.. it just goes to gas tank storage. Are you beginning to see the picture? Simple formula, butso many variables. And no two cars.. or no two bodies we have … reactexactly the same way. That’s why we have so many other books, articles, etc. We all have many variables that are individual and specificto each one of us. Let’s consider what some of them are.. and what we cancontrol: F That’s food and fuel. All has some caloric value, butnot all is “burnable” at the same rate, nor has the samevalue. You see, the fuel we burn has essential constituentsof carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and other elements. That which has calories alone has been referred to as emptycalories, a term I’m sure most readers have heard of. Thekey in weight management is to not only limit the calories, but to take in the calories that are carriers or compoundsof the carbs, the vitamins, the minerals and other essentialnutrients. In theory, one could consume 5000 calories a dayand virtually starve to death! And at the same time, theywould look fat because they are not burning them; they can’texcrete them all, and so they store them. Yes, the body canburn and use fat, but in turn it produces chemicals withinitself that become toxic and one enters what is generallyknown as a state of ketosis. Most diets concentrate all on providing one with the rightsource of F intake. The commercial diet products simplifythe process, whether in some liquid form, such as a”shake”, or in a pre packaged meal. Others such as weightwatchers teach you how to mix and blend your food. This is all good… as far as it goes… but only dealswith the left side of the equation. But it’s a start. Whatyou need to know is that you only have a small part of theequation you need to work with. Now let’s move over to the right side. The most important factor here is the FB, or food burned. Like the car, there again are many variables. The first isthe level of activity or speed. Like the car at idle.. thebody at idle uses very very very little energy. If you areidle most of the time, you simply are going to store more ofthe F you take in than you are going to burn! And here’s a catch 22 and “good news and bad news”.. Justlike the car can burn at different rates whether in motionor at idle depending on circumstances.. your body compositionhas something to say about the FB rate. The more fat youhave as opposed to the more muscle mass you have.. the lessyou burn. Fat consumes F slowly.. in fact, it adds toitself; Muscle consumes F more readily. And the less you move, the more muscle resorts or morphs tofat; the more you move (and do so in the right way), themore fat burns and converts over to muscle. But what about the “carubretion” of the body? That has todo with our individual metabolism. Some of us burn much more quickly than others due to theunique chemistry we all possess.. and this is an area thatmost of us can not control. Hormones, genes, and a whole lotof other items that only some very specialized medicaldoctors think they understand.. can effect our metabolicrate. It’s not something the unlearned want to mess with it,because as you increase your metabolic rate, you can dothings like raising blood pressure or decease the rate ofnutrient absorption. But for now, you need to understandthat the metabolic rate plays a key role. One of the by products of energy burn is heat. Makessense..just like burning any other fuel. If your metabolismis relatively “high”, chances are your body will feel warm agood part of the time. And conversely. Lastly, depending upon your viewpoint, you might believethat God has created rather unique beings in all of us, andgiven us a unique gene pattern. Yes, there are some whichare not quite “right” as in the cases of birth defects, andthe writer can’t explain that But for most of us, we have arather well balanced machine with a pre written inherentbasic control software program that results in a weight “setpoint”. Our food cravings are set to a certain level, ourmetabolism is. If we adhere to the basic pattern we are programmed for, which is to say a balance of F + FB, our FS will seek itsown balance. If you are eating and exercising moderately, accept your weight, for any modification will only result intemporary change conditions as long as you are doing thebehavior modification. After that, the equation rebalancesitself. Having outlined these principles, we hope you now have agrasp of the big picture. If you have a weight management problem, now that youunderstand the variables, our advice is that you do NOT tryto make any changes on your own by reading the latest bookor trying the latest diet fad. You are probably onlychanging one variable, and unless you know of a way topermanently change the behavior, your results will betemporary at best. During that change, you might also change the metabolic ratepattern you were programmed with.. so.. our final advice:Seek medical consultation to get your individual bodydiagnosis before ever starting the “Do It Yourself” majorchange. Hope this helps. Joe Leech makes it easy to control weight when you understand the principles. 5 Powerful Steps to Successful Marketing

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Chris R Edwards This Newsletter is one of a series which aims to help you grow your sales and increase your margins by giving you access to the best marketing strategies around. The Collins English Dictionary defines marketing simply as the provision of goods or services to provide customer needs. The marketing mix includes the variables such as price, promotion and service to meet customer or consumer needs. Wikipedia says Marketing is a social and managerial function that attempts to create, expand and maintain a collection of customers. Most organisations tend to have a marketing function, alongside finance, production, distribution and HR. There is no doubt that without marketing most businesses will fail. In our wide experience it is more a philosophy and management style and must not be confused with selling. At one level marketing is very simple stuff. However, people take degrees in the subject and it is a vital element in top class MBAs. For others it is a black art directly linked to TV commercials and subliminal selling. There are many books on Marketing. People who have created and implemented marketing plans and learned from their mistakes have written some of the best books. Many are written for multinational organisations with large budgets. For SMEs, you must keep marketing as simple as possible. So why are so many small to medium organisations marketing challenged?Believe me marketing is easy. You just need to follow a few steps, testing and checking as you move from step to step. If a step suggests it, you should not be afraid of changing your plans or indeed scrapping the idea altogether. Three big concepts you should not forget. Customers are more important than prospects. Satisfied customers will buy again and recommend you to others. Benefits come before features. Customers and prospects are more interested in what you can do for them than in how you do it. Offering a continuous low price does not work. Customers look for added value. Most mistrust low price for ever strategies. Most will not shop around for the lowest price. Five Steps to Successful Marketing. Dont spend serious money and time unless you have followed these steps. Each step becomes progressively more expensive. Step One. On one side of A4, clearly define your product or service, quantify your immediate objectives, describe your target customers, as you see it describe the benefits to them and why they should choose you above competition. Check with people not directly involved with the project. Does it make sense? Would they buy it? Seek objective criticism. Make changes and re-check. If it is a commercial project, when does it start to make a profit? Step Two. Gather as much information as possible about your customers, the market place and your competition. Start in your files, read customer complaints and customer endorsements, interview any staff with a direct connection with customers, discreetly speak to your customers, ask trade bodies for information, search the internet, visit business libraries, become a prospect for a competitor, if low cost buy competitors product or service, acquire specialist market research, if you have the time attend trade shows, exhibitions, networking events and seminars. Use the information to answer any unknowns and to beef up the elements in Step One. Change the project as required. Does it still make sense to your test panel? If it is a commercial project, when does it start to make a profit? Step Three. When you have formulated an idea for the project, speak to your customers or prospects to gain a reaction. If you have more than one idea or several versions of an idea you need to talk to more people. If you are looking for a winner you probably need to gather quantitative data using a self-completion questionnaire. Make it easy to fill in e.g. tick boxes. Offer an incentive to participate. To ease reply use on-line surveys or freepost mail. Gather demographic data. Reinforce security and DP issues. Apply standard deviation to measure significance. It is unlikely you will achieve significance with 10% response to 1000 consumer questionnaires but you may with a 10% response to 1000 b2b questionnaires. Test the questionnaire before sending to your customer file. Other techniques include hall tests, street interviews, exit interviews and mystery shoppers. Omnibus surveys are used to establish a much bigger sample size but with a limited number of questions. If you are looking for greater customer insight to a concept or project you will need to undertake the more expensive qualitative research. Focus groups, workshops, one to one interviews are all techniques to be considered. Objectivity using an external moderator is necessary. Remember market research exercises do not produce creativity. All the creativity must come from you or your agencies. The other thing to realise is most of your competitors will not be researching - which gives you a massive competitive advantage. Step Four. It is likely that the product or service proposition will change as a result of the information gathered in Step 3. Go back to the one side of A4 from Step One and see if changes need to be made to the basic business plan. Now list all the opportunities you have. This is the creative part. Try brainstorming it can work or be a complete waste of time but it is cheap and fun to do. Look at all the market opportunities open to you. Cost the options. If it is a commercial project, when does it start to make a profit? You may decide to have different projects/services for several markets. Step Five. Produce a marketing plan for the next 12 months in some detail. Years two and three are needed for cash flow. Producing a 5 year plan is generally a waste of time unless it is a large capital project with a long gestation period. Produce the product/service and test it with the new target groups or even go back to the original market research respondents. Test the advertising and promotional materials especially if direct marketing is the main strategy. Visit our web site http://www.deve.co.uk for more information and marketing hints and tips.
